Canoe Safety & Skills Courses

August 6 & 9, 2007
Marysville at the at the public access dock
between St. Lawrence & Leandra Streets

ORCKA Safe Canoeing Program
Ontario Recreational Canoeing & Kayaking Association

The program provides first time paddlers with basic safety
and performance information related to canoeing.
By the end of this 2 hour session it is expected that the paddlers will have enough skill to safely enjoy some recreational paddling with a partner
close to shore for an hour or two.

Child & Youth Safe Canoeing (10 years +)
Session 1: Monday, August 6 (8 am-10am)
Session 2: Thursday, August 9 (8 am-10am)
Canoes, paddles & PFDs provided
Cost: $5 per participant

Safe Canoeing for Families (maximum 2 adults, 2 children per boat:
Session 1: Monday, August 6 (6pm-8pm)
Session 2: Thursday, August 9 (8 am-10am)
Canoes, paddles & PFDs provided
Cost: $10 per boat

Flat Water Tandem Canoe Certification Course ($75./participamt)
Age requirement : 14 years plus
Dates: Tues. Aug. 7 & Wed. Aug. 8 (8am - 6pm)

Wolfe Island Annual Summer Music Festival

Wolfe Island's 9th Annual Summer Music Festival
will be held:

Friday, Aug. 10th & Saturday, August 11th

On August 11th, Montreal rock outfit WOLF PARADE will headline the annual MUSICFEST on Wolfe Island near Kingston, Ontario, leading a bill of some of the best independent music in Canada including HOLY , APOSTLE OF HUSTLE, CHAD VANGAALEN and a reunion performance by WEEPING TILE led by Juno Award winner SARAH HARMER. at the Wolfe Island Community Centre Grounds

Gates open at 12 pm

The opening night of the festival August 10th at 8 p.m. will once again host THE HOOTENANNY TOUR, a rotating review of Canada’s cow-punk scene with LUTHER WRIGHT and JENNY WHITELY.

The Wolfe Island MusicFest has made a reputation of featuring the best independent Canadian music with acts like CONSTANTINES, WINTERSLEEP, JOEL PLASKETT, BY DIVINE RIGHT, MATTHEW BARBER, PETER ELKAS, CUFF THE DUKE and more.

A community festival, proceeds go to the Wolfe Island Community Centre and have helped build a hockey rink, plant trees, improve landscaping conditions and more.

Scene of the Crime

The Wolfe Island 6th Annual
Scene of the Crime Festival
will be held
Saturday, August 11th

Canada’s top mystery writers and readers’ unite on the island where Canada’s first crime writer Grant Allen was born and raised for a full day of programs, panels, the ever-popular short story contest and a brand new writing workshop.

The Grant Allen Award will be presented to Eric Wright a pioneer in the field of Canadian mystery writing. Wright taught English at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute before turning his talents exclusively to writing crime fiction.

Visiting Authors include:

Giles Blunt, author of the Algonquin Bay series of mystery novels.
Peter Clement, author of best-selling medical thrillers.
Lyn Hamilton, author of a successful series of archaeological mysteries.
Edward D. Hoch, Rochester, NY,one of the most honoured mystery writers of all time.
Maureen Jennings writes award-winning books, plays, stories, screenplays.

The 5th annual Wolfe Island Fire Department Golf Tournament
will be held on:

Shotgun start with 2 “teams” per hole for each start time.

Wolfe Island Fiesta for Nicaragua

The Central America Solidarity Committeee of Kingston invites you to come and enjoy a relaxing afternoon at- The Island Grill. You can just walk on the ferry in Kingston and 25 minutes later you can be sipping a cool beverage and listening to the dance band Cruise Control.

And there's more! There will be dozens of great packages from our generous Kingston merchants which will be raffled off - books by prominent Kingston authors, wine and dine packages, paintings by local artists, and lots of other exciting prizes.
All money raised will go towards Horizons of Friendship, a wonderful organization based in Cobourg which supports community projects in Mexico and Central America. This year all funds raised at this event will go towards a Horizons project in rural Nicaragua promoting organic farming, self-sufficiency and sustainability.
It will be a great time for a very worthy cause and tickets are a mere $5! That's right - five dollars! They can be purchased at Tara Foods and at The Island Grill

The 2007 Regatta will be held
Sunday, August 26th at 8:30 a.m.

It starts at the Island Grill's “back Patio”
There will be a practice race in the am
with 2 races before lunch (which is provided)
and 1 race in the afternoon,(wind dependent)

Modern
Traditional
Paddle & Oar

Classification of boat is the prerogative of the Race Committee
